Our association is based on the belief that our childrens' needs are of the utmost importance. Our entire team is committed to meeting those needs.
Children's Brain Injury Association was founded in 2010 by Donna Duggan. Donna's daughter Hannah suffered a brain injury in 2006. Hannah woke up that morning and was walking, talking, running, and just being a typical 3 year old. She was beautiful, smart, funny, and had the strongest will. She could throw one more tantrum for sure. Donna could not have loved her more. Hannah woke up from a nap and had a seizure. The seizure lasted for 2 hours. Hannah lost oxygen somewhere during this time. Her diagnosis is HIE (Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy). She was in the PICU for about a month and then in rehab for about the same amount of time. Hannah came home not being able to hold her head up, walk, talk, or even swallow. It has been several years and Hannah can now sit by herself, eat by mouth some, and smile. We are very thankful for the smiles!
Donna realized there was little help for children who experience a brain injury so that is when she came together with other parents, members of the community, and professionals to form Children's Brain Injury Association, Inc.
You can read more of Hannah's story at www.carepages.com and the page name is HannahDuggan. Donna continues to pray for a miracle for Hannah and all our kids!
